What should you know about the Aveta hysteroscope?

It may be used when investigating or treating problems inside the uterus, such as polyps or other focal tissue. The exact instruments and anaesthesia plan depend on the reason for the procedure and the care setting.

A hysteroscope is a slim viewing instrument passed through the vagina and cervix, so an abdominal incision is not normally needed to reach the uterine cavity. Fluid gently opens the cavity for a clear view. With the Aveta system, compatible tissue-removal instruments can pass through the scope, allowing the clinician to see the target while removing it.

This is a type of hysteroscopic technology, not a diagnosis or a treatment decision by itself. Your gynaecologist may use it during an examination of the cavity or an operative procedure, depending on what needs to be assessed or removed.

Tell the clinical team if you could be pregnant, take blood-thinning medicine, have medicine allergies or are being treated for an infection. Follow the instructions about eating, drinking and regular medicines; these vary with the planned anaesthesia. Arrange transport if sedation or a general anaesthetic will be used.

Mild cramping and light vaginal bleeding can occur afterward. Use the pain relief recommended by your clinician and follow their advice about bathing, exercise, tampons and sex. Keep any follow-up appointment, especially if tissue was sent to a laboratory, so the findings and next steps can be explained.

Contact your care team promptly for bleeding that is becoming heavy, worsening pelvic or abdominal pain, fever, faintness, foul-smelling discharge or difficulty passing urine. Seek urgent care for severe pain, very heavy bleeding, collapse, breathing difficulty or signs of a serious allergic reaction.

Use the discharge instructions given by your hospital because they reflect the procedure and anaesthesia you received. If your symptoms feel more severe than the expected recovery described there, do not wait for a routine follow-up.

Ask what the clinician expects to examine or remove, whether the procedure is diagnostic or operative, which anaesthesia is planned and what alternatives fit your situation. You can also ask whether tissue will be tested, when results should be available, what bleeding or pain is expected and whom to contact outside clinic hours.
