Using a Braun at-home hair-removal device safely

IPL sends pulses of broad-spectrum light toward pigment in the hair. Absorbed energy heats the target and can reduce later regrowth. Because surrounding skin contains pigment too, the handset's sensor and allowed skin-tone range are central safety features, not optional conveniences.

Very light, red, grey, or white hair may not absorb enough light for a useful response. Coarse facial or body hair linked to hirsutism may improve cosmetically while the hormonal driver remains. New or increasing androgen-pattern hair can therefore merit a medical assessment.

Identify the exact handset, inspect its window for damage, and read its area restrictions. Compare your untanned skin and natural hair colour with the compatibility chart. Prepare hair only as instructed, clean and dry the skin, and complete the specified patch test before extending treatment.

Keep the window in full contact and use the mode intended for that body area. Follow the manual's timing rather than adding extra passes when growth remains visible. Do not use it over tattoos, dark moles, wounds, active rashes, sunburn, or near the eyes. Clean the window only by the stated method after the handset cools.

Discontinue use and obtain medical advice if redness keeps intensifying, or if you develop blisters, crusting, an open sore, severe pain, pus, or a distinct light or dark patch. Any eye pain or change in sight after exposure requires urgent assessment. Repeated boils or draining lumps in the underarms or groin should be checked for hidradenitis suppurativa before more light treatment.

Bring the model name when asking whether a medicine, skin condition, or recent tan makes treatment unsuitable. A clinician can also explain whether bumps are ingrown hairs, razor bumps, keratosis pilaris, or an active infection and when treatment can safely resume.
