What should you know about the ARTAS machine?

ARTAS is a robotic platform used in hair transplantation. Imaging and software help identify and harvest suitable follicular units from a donor area, commonly at the back or sides of the scalp. The system supports consistency and precision, yet it does not diagnose the cause of hair loss or decide whether surgery is appropriate. A clinician still assesses the scalp, donor supply, hair characteristics, health history and the pattern of future loss.

Robotic assistance is one way to perform parts of FUE. The eventual appearance also depends on graft handling, hairline design, placement direction, donor-area management and healing—not on the device name alone.

Arrange an assessment with a qualified hair-restoration clinician. Bring a list of medicines and supplements, explain any scalp disease or previous procedures, and describe how your hair loss has changed. Ask who performs each part of the procedure and how the proposed graft plan protects the donor area. Follow the clinic’s instructions about hair length, scalp products, smoking, medicines and transport; do not stop prescribed medicine unless the prescribing clinician agrees.

After a transplant, mild tenderness, crusting and temporary swelling can occur. Contact the treating clinic promptly if pain is worsening rather than settling, redness is spreading, drainage develops, bleeding does not stop with the advised pressure, or you develop fever or feel unwell. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, fainting, facial swelling away from the treated area, or signs of a severe allergic reaction.

Ask what diagnosis explains your hair loss, why robotic FUE suits your scalp and goals, and which parts will use the machine. Clarify who designs the hairline, extracts and places grafts; what alternatives are reasonable; how the donor area will be preserved; what recovery changes to expect; and whom to contact if symptoms concern you afterward.
