Apple Cider Vinegar and Skin Tags

Vinegar is acidic, and repeated application beneath tape or a plaster can produce raw skin, blistering, infection or lasting pigment alteration. It is not able to distinguish a tag from healthy tissue, and a self-diagnosed growth may need a different evaluation.

Typical skin tags are soft growths that project from the skin, often on the neck, underarms, groin or other areas of friction. They may match the surrounding skin or appear darker. Benign moles, warts and other lesions can sometimes be mistaken for them without a close examination.

A vinegar-induced change does not prove that a growth was harmless. Darkening may reflect tissue injury, dried blood or a crust, while swelling and redness can reflect inflammation. Damaging the surface can make later visual assessment more difficult.

If vinegar is still on the skin, take off contaminated clothing or coverings and rinse the spot thoroughly with lukewarm running water. Avoid scrubbing, peeling the growth or applying another household chemical. Protect a mildly irritated area from rubbing and monitor it for deterioration.

A dermatology clinician can identify the lesion before offering skin tag removal. Cryotherapy freezes selected tissue, while electrosurgery uses controlled electrical energy; suitability depends on the site, size, skin characteristics and medical history. Some tags are better left alone.

Obtain prompt care if vinegar contact causes significant blistering, severe or worsening pain, spreading redness, pus, fever, a deep-looking wound or bleeding that will not stop with steady pressure. Eye exposure needs immediate irrigation and urgent professional advice.

Book an examination for a lesion that is asymmetrical, develops several colours, changes noticeably, has an irregular outline or bleeds repeatedly without clear friction. A new uncertain growth near an eyelid or genital area should also be assessed instead of treated at home.

Ask how the diagnosis was made, whether removal is medically necessary, what approach gives the best fit for that location, and how to look after the wound. If vinegar has already been used, describe its strength, frequency, contact time and every reaction you noticed.
