Earplugs for a partner's snoring

Short answer
Earplugs may reduce how loudly a partner hears snoring, but they do not treat the snorer's airway or breathing.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Direct answer
They are a noise-management option for the listener. The person who snores may still need changes to sleep habits, treatment for nasal symptoms, or assessment for a sleep-related breathing disorder.
Noise control is different from treatment
Foam, silicone and reusable filtered earplugs reduce sound in different ways and fit different ear shapes. A comfortable seal can soften snoring noise, although low-frequency sounds may still be audible. Blocking the listener's ears cannot change vibration in the other person's nose or throat.
Earplugs can also make alarms, a child's call or warning sounds harder to hear. Plan how essential alerts will remain noticeable, especially if both adults use hearing protection or one person has responsibility for overnight care.
Protecting your ears while sleeping
Wash and dry your hands before insertion. Use the fitting method supplied with the product, keep reusable plugs clean and dry, and replace damaged or soiled pairs. Never push an earplug deeply with another object. Avoid sleeping in them when you have ear pain, discharge, a suspected infection, recent ear surgery or difficulty removing them unless a clinician has advised otherwise.
If pressure, itching, reduced hearing or trapped wax develops, stop use and arrange an ear check. The snorer can separately record patterns such as back sleeping, blocked nose, alcohol use, choking sounds and morning tiredness to guide a clinical discussion.
Do not block out breathing warning signs
Obstructive sleep apnoea can present with snoring, repeated pauses in breathing, gasping or choking, restless sleep and daytime sleepiness. Those features call for medical assessment even when earplugs let the partner sleep. Urgent help is needed if the person is severely short of breath, cannot be awakened normally, becomes confused, has chest pain, or develops blue or grey lips.
Topics for each person to raise
The listener can ask about recurring ear discomfort, wax or safe alternatives to in-ear plugs. The snorer can ask whether nasal congestion, medicines, sleeping position or airway narrowing may contribute and whether a sleep assessment is indicated.

Questions people ask
Can nightly earplug use cause ear problems?
Poor fit, moisture, wax build-up or unclean plugs can cause irritation and reduced hearing. Good hygiene and stopping when symptoms develop lowers avoidable risk.
Should I wake my partner if breathing stops?
Repeated pauses, choking or gasping should not be ignored. Encourage prompt medical assessment; seek urgent help if breathing does not restart normally or the person is difficult to wake.
