Anti-rabies vaccine: purpose, timing, and side effects

Pre-exposure vaccination is used for people whose work, activities, or travel may bring them into contact with rabies. Post-exposure vaccination is part of urgent preventive care after a relevant bite, scratch, or saliva contact.

Vaccination received in advance simplifies later management but does not remove the need for medical care after exposure.
