Short answer

Angina relief begins with stopping exertion and following your prescribed rescue-medicine plan, while new, severe, persistent or changing chest discomfort requires emergency assessment.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

At a glance

During a familiar episode
Stop exertion, rest safely and follow your own prescribed rescue plan.
Prevention
Regular medicines and risk-factor care may reduce strain on the heart and limit episodes.
Plan review
More frequent, easier-to-trigger or less responsive symptoms need reassessment.

Relief and prevention have different jobs

Fast-acting medicine may ease an established episode by widening blood vessels and reducing strain on the heart. Daily medicines may instead prevent attacks, lower the heart’s workload or manage conditions that contribute to cardiovascular risk. Feeling better after rescue medicine does not identify the cause of unfamiliar chest pain.

A change in frequency, trigger, intensity, duration or response to treatment can signal that the current plan needs prompt reassessment. Relief strategies should therefore include both an episode plan and regular review of the underlying heart condition.

Using your angina plan

When familiar symptoms begin, pause the activity and rest in a safe position. Use only the rescue medicine prescribed for you, following its label and your clinician’s instructions. Keep it available, store it as directed and check replacement dates so it remains ready for use.

Track episodes and possible triggers such as exertion, emotional strain, cold air or heavy meals. Take preventive medicines consistently, and speak with the prescriber if dizziness, headaches or other effects interfere. Do not compensate for recurring symptoms by repeatedly increasing medicine without clinical advice.

When relief measures are not enough

Call UAE emergency services if chest discomfort is new, severe, occurs at rest, lasts longer than your usual attacks, returns quickly, or does not respond as your written plan says it should. Sweating, nausea, breathlessness, faintness, or discomfort travelling to the arm, jaw, shoulder or back also warrant immediate help. Avoid driving yourself to care.

Build a precise action plan

Confirm which medicine is for immediate relief, which is preventive, how each should be stored and taken, what activity is appropriate, and exactly which change in your usual symptoms should trigger an emergency call.

Questions people ask

Can I use someone else’s angina spray or tablets?

No. Chest pain has different causes, and these medicines can affect blood pressure or interact with other drugs. Use only treatment prescribed for you.

Does rest proving helpful mean the episode is harmless?

No. Improvement can occur with angina, but it cannot rule out a serious heart problem. Base urgency on whether symptoms are new, severe or changing and on your emergency plan.
