Allergies and body aches

Allergic nasal symptoms can disturb sleep and leave a person feeling tired or sore, but widespread muscle pain should not automatically be attributed to allergy.

Sneezing, itchy eyes, clear nasal discharge, and symptoms tied closely to pollen, dust, or animals fit an allergic pattern. Fever, chills, marked fatigue, headache, cough, sore throat, or a new rash can point toward an infectious illness instead.

Persistent pain without an acute illness may relate to sleep disruption, thyroid problems, chronic pain conditions, physical strain, or a medicine effect. Travel, insect exposure, animal contact, and recent illness provide additional diagnostic clues.

Rest, drink enough fluids, and record temperature, associated symptoms, travel, new medicines, and when the aches began. Follow label directions for any non-prescription pain medicine and check suitability with a pharmacist if you have other conditions or take regular treatment.

Arrange a medical assessment if the pain persists, repeatedly returns, follows travel or animal exposure, or occurs with ongoing fatigue, weakness, joint swelling, weight change, or reduced ability to manage usual activities.

Seek urgent care for body aches with severe weakness, confusion, a stiff neck, breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting, very dark urine, inability to keep fluids down, or a rapidly spreading or non-fading rash.

Sudden throat or tongue swelling, wheeze, collapse, or rapidly worsening symptoms after an exposure can signal a severe allergic reaction and requires emergency services. Use prescribed adrenaline according to the emergency plan.

Ask which accompanying symptoms help distinguish allergy from infection or inflammation, whether any medicine could be contributing, and whether your exposure or travel history changes the assessment. Describe exactly where the pain occurs and whether there is true muscle weakness.
