Light absorbed by pigment in the hair is converted to heat that damages the follicle. Because hairs cycle through active and resting phases, reduction develops across a course of treatments rather than from a single exposure.

Coarse, dark hair provides a stronger target than blonde, red, grey or very fine hair. Skin tone, tanning, the body area and previous reactions affect whether Alexandrite technology is suitable or whether another laser may offer a safer treatment window.

The goal is lasting hair reduction, not a promise that every hair will disappear. Hormonal drivers can encourage new growth, while maintenance needs vary. Reducing coarse hair may also lessen irritation from shaving and repeated ingrown hairs, but an underlying skin or hormonal condition can need separate management.

Choose a provider who assesses skin and hair, records medical history, explains the device and selects settings for the individual. Disclose recent tanning, pregnancy, medicines, photosensitivity, cold sores, scarring tendencies and active rashes. Avoid waxing, threading or plucking beforehand because these remove the follicular target; follow the provider's shaving instructions instead.

Use the supplied eye protection throughout treatment. Afterwards, cool the area as advised, cleanse gently and protect it from sun and friction. Do not pull out hairs that appear to shed. Follow the clinic's advice about exercise, hot environments, swimming and active skin products while irritation settles.

Short-lived redness, warmth and small swellings around follicles can occur. Notify the clinic promptly about increasing pain, blisters, broken skin, spreading redness, discharge, persistent swelling or a marked lightening or darkening of the skin. Avoid picking damaged skin while awaiting care.

Urgent assessment is appropriate for severe eye pain or vision change after possible laser exposure, or for breathing difficulty and facial swelling suggesting a serious allergic reaction.

Ask why Alexandrite is preferred for your skin and hair, which cooling system is used, whether a test area is appropriate, how progress will be judged and who will manage an unexpected burn or pigment change. If growth is sudden or accompanied by other symptoms, ask whether medical evaluation is needed.
