AGNES treatment for syringoma: what to know

A clinician places the needle into individual bumps and delivers energy below the surface. The aim is to reduce the treated lesion while limiting injury to nearby skin, but complete clearing is not assured and new or residual bumps can remain.

Syringomas are benign growths arising from sweat-duct structures. They often appear as small, firm, skin-coloured bumps around the lower eyelids, although other sites can be involved. Treatment is usually cosmetic unless the diagnosis is uncertain or a lesion causes symptoms.

The phrase “AGNES laser” is commonly used informally, but the device supplies radiofrequency energy through a needle electrode. This differs from laser resurfacing, which directs light energy at the skin surface. The distinction matters when comparing likely downtime, aftercare and risks.

Arrange an in-person skin assessment before treatment because milia, sebaceous hyperplasia and other bumps can resemble syringomas. Tell the clinician about medicines, bleeding problems, previous scarring or pigment changes, active skin infections, eye conditions and any implanted electronic device.

After treatment, temporary swelling, redness, pinpoint crusting and tenderness can occur. Follow the clinic’s cleansing and ointment instructions, avoid picking crusts, and protect healing skin from sun exposure. Do not apply strong acids, retinoids or abrasive products until the treated area has settled and the clinician says they can resume.

Seek prompt assessment for worsening pain, spreading redness, increasing warmth, pus, fever, blisters or a wound that is becoming darker rather than healing. Urgent eye review is appropriate for new vision changes, severe eye pain or marked swelling that interferes with opening the eye.

Contact the treating clinician if persistent darkening, lightening, a raised scar or an unchanged bump concerns you. These findings do not automatically indicate a complication, but they need examination before another session or a different procedure is considered.

Ask how the diagnosis was confirmed, whether the planned electrode is suitable for the lesion depth and eyelid location, what result is realistic for your skin, and how pigment change or scarring would be managed. Also clarify who will perform the procedure and which aftercare products are safe near the eyes.
