Choice depends on whether marks are newer or mature, the risk of pigment change, recent surgery, skin sensitivity, and whether you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Discuss topical medicines before use because some are unsuitable around pregnancy.

Arrange medical assessment if the skin is intensely itchy with a spreading rash, painful, hot, weeping, blistered, or suddenly bruised. Those features point to irritation or another skin problem rather than the texture change alone.
