The jaw may initially feel firm, tender or slightly lumpy because the injection itself can cause local swelling. Bruising may develop around needle or cannula entry points, and swelling can make the two sides look temporarily different. These early effects do not show the settled contour. A lump that remains, becomes more noticeable or concerns you should be assessed by the treating clinician rather than pressed or reshaped at home.

Follow the injector’s instructions because the technique and product used affect aftercare. Keep the area clean, avoid rubbing or firm pressure, and do not massage it unless the clinician specifically directs you to. A cool compress wrapped in clean cloth can be held lightly against swelling; do not place ice directly on the skin. For the remainder of the day, gentle activity is sensible, and strenuous exercise, high heat and alcohol may be avoided if your clinician advised this. Check before taking pain medicine if you have allergies, other conditions or regular medicines.

Contact the treating clinic immediately for severe or increasing pain, pale or blanched skin, a mottled purple or dusky pattern, cool skin, spreading redness, drainage, fever, or swelling that is rapidly worsening. Sudden blurred vision, loss of vision, a severe unusual headache, weakness, facial drooping or difficulty speaking requires emergency care without waiting for the clinic to open. These symptoms can indicate a blood-flow problem, infection or another complication where early assessment matters.

Ask which filler was used, where it was placed, which aftercare instructions apply to that product, and how to contact the clinic outside normal hours. It is also useful to clarify when the result should be reviewed, what changes should prompt an earlier appointment, whether massage is appropriate, and when you may resume exercise, facial treatments or dental procedures.
