Check that the professional is appropriately licensed for your location and that the service explains privacy, record handling, clinical responsibility, and follow-up. Be cautious if a provider promises a diagnosis from a short quiz or offers medication without a thorough history and monitoring plan.

Save your responses and note real examples behind them. Prepare information about childhood, work or study, relationships, sleep, physical health, mental wellbeing, substance use, and all medicines before speaking with a clinician.

Arrange clinical support when concentration, impulsivity, or restlessness repeatedly disrupts ordinary life, whatever an online score says. Call local emergency services for suicidal plans, immediate risk of harm, hallucinations, severe agitation, or sudden confusion; an online screening form cannot manage a crisis.

Ask who interprets the answers, whether the appointment can lead to a recognised clinical diagnosis, how other causes are evaluated, which in-person checks might be needed, and who provides continuing care after the result.
