What should you know about an ABP blood test?

Abbreviations can vary between clinics and laboratories. The request form or patient portal should show the complete test name; if it does not, contact the ordering clinic or laboratory before making decisions based on the letters alone.

A blood result is interpreted using the named analyte, the laboratory's reference interval, your symptoms, medicines, medical history, and other results. A value outside the displayed interval does not by itself establish a diagnosis, and a value inside it may not explain ongoing symptoms.

Ask which sample is being analysed and whether ABP is a local abbreviation, a panel name, or shorthand entered on the request. This prevents confusion with blood-pressure monitoring, which uses a cuff rather than a blood sample.
