Short answer

Feeling more tired at 26 weeks can accompany increasing physical demands and broken sleep, although sudden, severe or persistent fatigue needs a clinical review.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

The short answer

Consider how quickly the change occurred, whether sleep or rest helps, and whether you also have dizziness, breathlessness, palpitations, pain, fever or changes in mood. Those details distinguish everyday low energy from fatigue requiring investigation.

Looking beyond the number of weeks

Energy may dip because sleep is interrupted by fetal movement, physical discomfort, reflux or trips to the toilet. A busy schedule, inadequate recovery, warm weather, dehydration and inconsistent meals can add to the load.

Anaemia also presents with fatigue in some pregnant people, sometimes alongside pallor, headache, dizziness, a pounding heartbeat or shortness of breath. Infection, thyroid problems and emotional distress are other possibilities a clinician may consider based on the wider symptom pattern; tiredness by itself cannot identify one.

A manageable daily rhythm

Prioritise the tasks that genuinely need doing and schedule pauses before exhaustion sets in. Keep water accessible, eat regular nourishing food and use gentle activity to prevent long periods of inactivity when it feels comfortable and your clinician has placed no restrictions.

Improve sleep conditions by making the room cool and dark and using pillows to support a comfortable side-lying position. Avoid self-prescribing iron or stimulant products for energy. Your maternity team can check earlier test results and decide whether any new assessment or supplementation makes sense.

When not to wait

Get emergency care for chest pain, severe breathlessness, fainting, confusion, heavy bleeding, sudden one-sided weakness or rapidly worsening illness. Notify the maternity unit promptly about severe headache, visual changes, abrupt swelling, fever, ongoing vomiting, significant abdominal pain or reduced fetal movement.

Request a scheduled review if you cannot manage usual activities, adequate rest brings no improvement, or fatigue steadily worsens. Seek mental health support as well if sadness, anxiety, loss of enjoyment or disturbing thoughts are affecting daily life.

Details worth bringing up

Explain your sleep pattern, food and fluid intake, activity tolerance, current supplements and any recent illness. Ask whether antenatal test results offer a clue, whether another blood check is warranted, and what level of exercise is suitable given your pregnancy and medical history.

Questions people ask

Can poor sleep explain daytime exhaustion?

Repeated waking from discomfort, reflux, movement or urination can leave sleep unrefreshing. Tell your clinician what wakes you because treating the particular disruption may be more useful than simply spending longer in bed.

When might a blood test be considered?

A maternity clinician may consider testing when fatigue is persistent, worsening or accompanied by features such as pallor, dizziness, breathlessness or palpitations. The decision also depends on your history and previous antenatal results.
