Professional microneedling may soften the texture and contrast of some stretch marks by creating controlled micro-injuries that trigger repair. It does not erase stretch marks, and suitability depends on skin type, the marks’ age, their location, and the person’s tendency to pigment or scar.

Longer needles reach deeper tissue and increase discomfort, pinpoint bleeding, inflammation, infection risk, and the chance of post-inflammatory colour change. Actual penetration also varies with pressure, device design, body area, and skin thickness, so a label on a roller does not define a uniform treatment depth.

Stretch marks are dermal changes caused when skin expands or changes faster than its support structure adapts. Newer red or purple marks and older pale marks can respond differently; an examination helps match the procedure and settings to the mark rather than choosing depth alone.

See a qualified dermatology or aesthetic clinician for skin assessment, sterile technique, suitable anaesthesia, device selection, and aftercare. Disclose active rashes, acne, cold sores, poor wound healing, raised scars, pigment changes after injury, medicines, pregnancy, and recent procedures. Treatment should be postponed over infected, sunburned, inflamed, or broken skin.

After a clinical procedure, use only the cleanser, moisturiser, and sun protection advised. Avoid picking crusts, vigorous exercise, pools, fragranced products, exfoliants, and unapproved active ingredients until the clinician says the barrier has recovered.

Contact the treating clinic promptly for pain, redness, heat, or swelling that is intensifying, or for pus, blisters, spreading rash, fever, darkening, or pale patches. Seek urgent care for facial swelling, wheezing, faintness, or breathing difficulty. If a home roller has caused an injury, stop using it and have persistent bleeding, deep wounds, or infection signs assessed.

Ask whether your marks are likely to respond, why a particular device and depth are proposed, how pigmentation risk will be reduced, and what endpoint the clinician watches during treatment. Discuss alternatives, expected downtime, aftercare, and which symptoms should trigger an urgent call.
