Tiredness at 11 weeks pregnant

Short answer
Tiredness at 11 weeks is common as pregnancy changes increase energy demands, but severe or unusual fatigue deserves assessment.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Common contributors
- Hormonal change, disturbed sleep, nausea and reduced food or fluid intake
- Useful first steps
- Rest, regular fluids, manageable meals and gentle activity when appropriate
- Discuss promptly
- Worsening exhaustion, faintness, breathlessness, persistent vomiting or a racing heartbeat
The short answer
Hormonal shifts, disrupted sleep, nausea and the physical work of supporting the pregnancy can all reduce energy. How you feel may vary from day to day.
Why energy can drop
Early pregnancy changes circulation and metabolism while progesterone can make you sleepy. Eating less because of nausea, vomiting or food aversions may add to the drained feeling.
Tiredness alone does not identify its cause. Anaemia can present with fatigue, breathlessness, paleness or a racing heartbeat, while dehydration can cause fatigue alongside thirst, dark urine or dizziness.
Ways to conserve energy
Build short rests into the day, keep a regular bedtime and reduce non-essential commitments. Gentle movement, such as an easy walk, may support sleep and energy if your maternity clinician has not advised activity restriction.
Sip fluids regularly and choose small, balanced meals or snacks when nausea makes full meals difficult. Continue the pregnancy supplements recommended for you; do not start extra iron solely for tiredness without checking whether it is appropriate.
Signs that need medical care
Contact your maternity team promptly if exhaustion is worsening, prevents normal daily activity, or comes with persistent vomiting, fever, pain when passing urine, marked breathlessness, fainting or a fast heartbeat.
Seek urgent care for heavy bleeding, severe abdominal pain, chest pain, severe difficulty breathing, confusion or collapse. Repeated vomiting with very little urine or an inability to keep fluids down also needs prompt assessment.
Questions for your maternity clinician
You might ask whether your symptoms warrant a blood count, whether your current supplements are suitable, and what activity level fits your pregnancy. Mention sleep quality, vomiting, diet, medicines and any bleeding or breathlessness.

Questions people ask
Can I nap when I am tired at 11 weeks?
A short daytime rest can help, although a long or late nap may make night-time sleep harder. Adjust the timing to your own sleep pattern.
Should I take iron for pregnancy tiredness?
Only take an iron product at the dose recommended by your clinician. A blood test and review of your diet and symptoms can help determine whether iron is needed.
