Short answer

A sea-sickness wrist band is an acupressure device that may ease nausea for some travellers, while planning and symptom monitoring remain important.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

Why sea sickness happens

Motion sickness develops when the movement sensed by the inner ear does not match what the eyes and body expect. On a boat this mismatch can lead to nausea, sweating, pallor, dizziness, headache, or vomiting. A wrist band places gentle pressure on a point on the inner wrist. It is not a substitute for moving to a safer place, drinking fluids, or treating severe symptoms.

Sea sickness can be more troublesome when someone is tired, hungry, dehydrated, anxious, or exposed to strong smells.

Before and during the journey

Put the band on as directed before travel and check that it feels comfortable rather than tight. Choose fresh air where possible, look toward a stable point such as the horizon, and avoid reading or looking down at a screen during rough movement. Have light food beforehand and take small sips of water. If you have had difficult motion sickness before, seek travel-health advice ahead of the trip about prevention options.

Tell the crew if symptoms make it hard to stand safely or if you need a quieter, more stable position.

When to seek medical help

Get urgent help for severe dehydration, fainting, chest pain, severe headache, confusion, blood in vomit, or abdominal pain that is severe or worsening. Seek medical advice if vomiting continues after the motion has stopped, since another cause may need consideration.

Questions to ask before travelling

Ask whether your medical conditions or medicines affect the choice of travel-sickness treatment, how to use any recommended medicine safely, and what to do if you cannot keep fluids down during the journey.

Questions people ask

Should I put the wrist band on before boarding?

Use it according to the product directions; putting it on before the journey may be more practical than fitting it once symptoms are established.

Does sea sickness always stop as soon as I leave the boat?

Symptoms often improve when motion stops, but ongoing vomiting, severe pain, or dehydration warrants medical advice.
