A ring pessary sits inside the vagina and provides support for tissues affected by pelvic organ prolapse. Silicone is flexible and can be shaped for comfortable placement. During fitting, the clinician checks whether the ring stays in position when you stand, walk, cough, or use the toilet. The correct size should support the prolapsed area without causing pressure, rubbing, difficulty passing urine, or difficulty emptying the bowel. A ring pessary is a management option; it does not repair the underlying pelvic support.

Follow the fitting clinician's instructions about cleaning, removal, and follow-up. Some people remove and replace a ring pessary themselves, while others need clinic visits. Tell the clinician about vaginal dryness, discharge, bleeding, pain, or urinary changes so the fit can be reviewed. Keep follow-up appointments even when the pessary feels comfortable, because the vaginal tissues need checking and the device may need cleaning or resizing.

Arrange prompt medical review for new vaginal bleeding, persistent pelvic pain, foul-smelling discharge, sores, or a pessary that cannot be removed when removal is required. Seek urgent help for inability to pass urine, severe pain, fever, or sudden heavy bleeding. Do not force a device that feels stuck or painful.
