Why is Q-switched laser used in carbon laser peel?

During a carbon laser peel, a carbon-based lotion is spread over the skin and allowed to settle. The Q-switched laser then delivers brief pulses that are absorbed strongly by the carbon layer. The interaction helps remove the coating and loosen oil, surface debris and some pigment-containing particles from the outer skin surface.

The procedure is commonly chosen when someone wants a refreshed appearance, more even-looking texture or support for oily skin. It does not treat every cause of acne, pigmentation or scarring, and the response depends on skin type, active inflammation, sun exposure and the settings selected.

Tell the clinician about recent tanning, cold sores, active acne, eczema, medicines and products that make your skin sensitive. Arrive with clean skin if instructed, and protect the treated area from sunlight before and after the procedure. Use the recommended cleanser and moisturiser while the skin settles.

Temporary warmth, redness, dryness or mild sensitivity can occur. Avoid picking flakes or adding strong exfoliants until your clinician says the skin barrier has recovered. A treatment plan may involve review and adjustment rather than repeating identical settings each time.

Contact the clinic if blistering, marked swelling, increasing pain, spreading redness or discharge appears. Seek urgent help for facial swelling with breathing difficulty or any sudden eye symptoms. New or persistent darkening, lightening or scarring should also be assessed by the treating professional.
