Why is a microwave energy device used in sweat gland treatment?

The handpiece places microwave energy at a planned depth in the underarm, where many sweat glands are located. The energy heats tissue around the glands, which can reduce their ability to produce sweat. Cooling at the skin surface helps manage heat where the device touches you. Because the treatment is focused on the underarm area, it does not involve removing sweat glands surgically.

Temporary swelling, tenderness, altered sensation, or small areas of firmness can occur afterward. The treated area may look uneven while it settles, and the response can differ between sides. A clinician should assess whether excessive sweating is mainly underarm sweating or part of a wider medical problem before treatment.

Tell the clinician about implanted electronic devices, metal in the treatment area, allergies, previous underarm procedures, medicines, and any skin irritation or infection. Follow instructions about shaving, deodorant, washing, and pain relief. Afterward, keep the area clean, use only recommended products, and avoid rubbing or strenuous activity until advised. Arrange follow-up if numbness, swelling, or discomfort is not improving as expected.

Contact the treating clinic promptly for worsening pain, spreading redness, increasing warmth, drainage, fever, marked swelling, or a blister. Seek urgent medical help for breathing difficulty, facial swelling, or signs of a severe allergic reaction. New weakness or persistent loss of movement in the arm also needs prompt assessment.
