Why Is an LED Phototherapy Panel Used in LED Light Therapy?

Short answer
An LED phototherapy panel is used in LED light therapy to deliver selected light wavelengths evenly across the treatment area without cutting or removing the skin surface.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Device role
- Delivers selected wavelengths over a treatment area.
- Surface effect
- Does not intentionally remove the outer skin layer.
How the panel works
The panel contains light-emitting diodes arranged to cover a defined area, such as the face, neck, or another region. Different wavelengths interact with skin in different ways: blue light may be selected for acne-related treatment, while red or near-infrared light may be used for other goals. The device is positioned at a set distance and exposure is controlled by the treatment protocol. LED therapy is non-ablative, so it does not create the deliberate peeling or vaporisation associated with some resurfacing procedures.
Results are usually assessed across a course rather than after one session. The panel is a delivery device; it does not by itself determine whether the treatment is appropriate for your skin concern.
Before and after a session
Follow the clinic’s instructions about cleansing, photosensitising medicines, and eye protection. Remove products that could interfere with the session and use the specified protective eyewear when directed. Tell the practitioner about light sensitivity, medicines, a history of seizures triggered by light, or an eye condition. After treatment, use gentle skincare and sun protection, and report unusual heat, persistent redness, blistering, or eye discomfort.
When to seek care
Contact the treating clinic if discomfort continues beyond the expected recovery period, or if you develop marked swelling, blistering, a burn-like area, worsening rash, or visual symptoms. Prompt assessment is also sensible when a skin lesion changes rather than behaving like the concern being treated.
Questions for your doctor
Ask which wavelength is planned, what skin concern it targets, how your eyes will be protected, how many sessions may be considered, and which medicines or conditions could make light treatment unsuitable.

Questions people ask
Does an LED panel use the same light for every concern?
No. The wavelength and protocol may differ according to the skin concern and treatment goal.
Is eye protection needed?
Follow the clinic’s instructions. Protective eyewear may be required because bright treatment light can irritate or injure the eyes.
