Why is an implanter pen used in DHI hair transplant?

After follicles are collected and prepared, the clinician loads them into the pen one at a time. The pen can create the recipient opening and release the follicle in the same action, helping the team follow the planned angle, spacing and hairline design. This matters because transplanted hairs need to blend with nearby growth rather than point in an unrelated direction.

The device does not select healthy follicles, design the hairline or determine whether DHI is suitable. Those decisions depend on scalp assessment, donor hair, existing density and the pattern of hair loss. The pen is a placement instrument within the broader transplant process.

Before treatment, discuss medicines, scalp conditions, smoking or vaping, and the amount of donor hair available. Ask how follicles will be protected between extraction and placement, and what placement pattern is planned for your hairline and crown.

Afterward, follow the clinic’s washing and sleeping instructions, avoid rubbing or picking at the recipient area, and attend the planned review. Temporary redness, swelling or crusting can occur as the scalp heals; the clinic should explain which changes fit your procedure and which need a call.

Contact your transplant team promptly if pain is worsening rather than settling, swelling spreads markedly, bleeding does not stop with the advised pressure, or the scalp develops spreading redness, pus or fever. A sudden change in vision, breathing difficulty or facial swelling needs urgent medical attention.

Ask which areas will receive follicles, how the pen supports the planned angles, what happens if a follicle is damaged, and how you will protect grafts during the first days. Also ask when washing, exercise and work can safely resume.
