Why is hysteroscope used in operative hysteroscopy?

The hysteroscope is a narrow camera passed through the vagina and cervix. Fluid gently opens the uterine cavity so the clinician can view the lining and identify an area needing treatment on a monitor.

Because the instrument has a working channel, small tools may be introduced without a separate abdominal incision. Depending on the finding, the clinician may remove a polyp or fibroid, divide scar tissue, or take a tissue sample. The exact procedure depends on the problem found and your treatment plan.

Share your medical history, allergies, pregnancy possibility, and current medicines before the procedure. Follow the instructions about fasting, medicines, and transport if sedation or anaesthesia is arranged.

Plan for some rest afterwards. Cramping and light bleeding may occur, but your clinician should explain what is expected for your procedure and when you may return to work, exercise, and sexual activity.

Seek prompt medical advice for heavy bleeding, severe pain, fever, chills, unpleasant-smelling discharge, faintness, breathing difficulty, or difficulty passing urine after the procedure. Do not wait for a scheduled review if symptoms are getting worse.

Ask what the hysteroscopy is intended to treat, whether the planned treatment may change after the cavity is inspected, what anaesthesia is suitable, and how the findings will be shared with you.
