Why is an electrolysis epilator used in electrolysis hair removal?

The practitioner inserts a sterile, fine probe alongside the hair into the follicle. The device sends a selected form of electrical energy to disrupt the follicle’s ability to produce that hair. The hair is then removed with sterile forceps rather than pulled forcefully.

Because each follicle is treated separately, electrolysis can be used on small areas and on hair colours that do not provide enough pigment for light-based treatment. Several visits may be needed because follicles are treated one at a time and hair cycles vary.

Tell the practitioner about medicines, skin conditions, a tendency to form raised scars, and previous reactions. Ask how the probe and forceps are sterilised and whether a small test area is appropriate. Arrive with clean skin and follow instructions about products applied before or after treatment.

Brief warmth, tingling, redness, or small areas of swelling can occur. Do not scratch or pick the treated skin, and use only the aftercare products recommended for that area.

Contact the practitioner or a clinician if redness spreads, pain increases, pus develops, swelling persists, or the area forms a blister or a lasting change in texture or colour. Prompt review helps distinguish expected irritation from a reaction needing care.
