Short answer

A cryotherapy chamber is used to create a controlled, brief cold environment for whole-body cryotherapy.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the chamber provides

The chamber allows the treatment team to control the cold exposure, keep the session brief, and monitor how you are tolerating it. The intense cold causes the skin blood vessels to narrow temporarily and can change how cold and discomfort signals are perceived. Whole-body cryotherapy is sometimes offered as an adjunct to recovery or symptom management, but the chamber does not diagnose the cause of pain or replace an appropriate rehabilitation plan.

Different chambers and protocols expose different parts of the body and use different operating conditions. Your clinician should explain the equipment, clothing and skin protection required, and what sensations are expected. Numbness, tingling, shivering, or skin discomfort should be reported rather than ignored.

Before and after a session

Tell the provider about circulation problems, cold sensitivity, nerve symptoms, heart conditions, uncontrolled blood pressure, pregnancy, or skin disease before treatment. Arrive with dry skin and use the protective clothing supplied. Remove damp items and follow instructions about jewellery and exposed skin. Stop the session and tell staff if the cold feels painful, if you become dizzy, or if your skin feels intensely burning.

Afterward, check the exposed skin and follow the provider's advice about activity and hydration. Consider the session an optional complement to care, not a substitute for diagnosis, exercise, or prescribed treatment.

When to seek medical care

Seek prompt medical advice for blistering, persistent skin colour change, severe pain, continuing numbness, or swelling after exposure. Get urgent help for fainting, chest pain, trouble breathing, confusion, or weakness that does not settle after leaving the chamber.

Questions for your doctor

What is the specific goal of this treatment for me? Which health conditions or medicines make cold exposure unsuitable? How will my skin and vital signs be monitored, and what symptoms mean the session should stop?

No. It may be offered as an adjunct for symptoms or recovery, while the underlying problem still needs appropriate assessment and care.
