Short answer

Heel Pain is a common presentation of Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome because pressure on the tibial nerve can disturb sensation in the heel.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What the nerve has to do with the heel

The tibial nerve travels through a narrow passage behind the inner ankle before dividing into branches that supply the foot. Swelling, injury, altered foot mechanics, or a space-occupying problem can reduce room in this passage. Irritation may create aching, burning, or electric pain in the heel or sole, sometimes with tingling. Symptoms may increase after standing or walking and may spread along the sole. Heel pain has several possible causes, so a clinical examination helps separate nerve symptoms from tendon, joint, or soft-tissue problems.

Steps that may help

Reduce activities that clearly increase symptoms and wear supportive footwear with enough room around the foot. Avoid tight straps around the inner ankle. A clinician or physiotherapist may assess ankle movement, foot position, strength, and nerve sensitivity, then suggest exercises or other treatment suited to the cause. Do not start intensive stretching or strengthening if it sharply increases burning or numbness.

When to seek care

Arrange medical review for persistent heel pain with burning, tingling, or reduced feeling. Seek prompt care for new foot weakness, trouble lifting the foot, marked swelling after injury, or rapidly spreading numbness. Sudden severe pain with a cold or discoloured foot needs urgent assessment.

Questions for your doctor

Ask which nerve area is involved, whether your footwear or foot mechanics may be contributing, what activity level is appropriate, and which changes should prompt an earlier review. Mention diabetes, ankle injuries, swelling, and symptoms that worsen at night or after walking.
