Which specialist treats prostate cancer?

A urologist assesses the prostate, urinary system and biopsy findings and may discuss prostate removal surgery. A radiation oncologist explains external radiotherapy or brachytherapy. A medical oncologist manages medicines and may consider targeted radioisotope therapy when cancer has spread or behaves in a way that makes it appropriate. Imaging and pathology specialists help define the diagnosis and extent.

Bring your biopsy and scan reports, PSA history if available, medicine list, and notes about urinary, sexual or bone symptoms. Ask how the diagnosis was confirmed, whether the cancer is confined to the prostate, and which options fit your priorities. If bone involvement is a concern, ask whether bone-strengthening therapy or symptom support should be considered.

Arrange assessment for blood in urine, persistent bone pain or increasing difficulty passing urine. Seek urgent care if you cannot pass urine, have severe back pain with leg weakness or numbness, lose bowel control, or see heavy blood with dizziness. These warning signs require immediate clinical evaluation.
