The specialist reviews the virus, the immune system, possible medicine interactions, and side effects. A sexual health clinician may help with testing and prevention, while a primary care clinician can address routine needs such as vaccinations, mood, and long-term health conditions.

HIV can be present without obvious symptoms, so testing is the way to confirm or exclude infection. Fatigue, night sweats, unintentional weight loss, or frequent infections need individual assessment and do not establish a diagnosis on their own.

Arrange an HIV test through a sexual health service, primary care clinician, or infectious disease service if you have a possible exposure or have been advised to test.
