When to worry about wrinkles with marionette lines

Marionette lines are creases in the lower face, while wrinkles are a visible skin change. They may deepen gradually and look different with facial expression, dryness, or changing light. A mark that behaves differently from the surrounding lines may be a separate skin problem rather than part of the crease.

Take a clear photograph in consistent lighting if you are tracking a change. Use a gentle cleanser, moisturiser, and broad-spectrum sunscreen on exposed skin. Avoid picking, harsh scrubs, or repeatedly stretching the area. A dermatologist or qualified aesthetic doctor can distinguish a normal crease from another lesion and discuss options if appearance bothers you.

Arrange a skin assessment if a spot within or beside the lines changes quickly, develops an uneven border or colour, bleeds without an obvious injury, forms a crust that does not heal, or becomes persistently painful, itchy, swollen, or numb. Seek prompt care for spreading redness, warmth, pus, fever, or swelling near the eye or mouth.
