When to worry about swollen lymph nodes with lymphoma

Swollen Lymph Nodes is a very common presentation of Lymphoma. Lymphoma affects lymphatic tissue, so nodes may enlarge in the neck, chest, armpit, or groin. A node can also swell because of infection, inflammation, or treatment, and the symptom alone cannot identify the cause.

Notice the location, texture, tenderness, and pace of change. Also record fever, sweating during sleep, itching, tiredness, appetite changes, cough, or pressure. Sharing a clear timeline helps your clinician decide whether the change needs examination or testing.

Call your lymphoma team and give the exact location, onset, recent change, and related symptoms. Mention recent illness, vaccination, dental problems, skin irritation, medicines, and treatment dates. Follow the monitoring plan while waiting for advice, and keep appointments for blood tests or imaging.

Do not squeeze, puncture, or heat the node. Keep taking prescribed treatment unless the team gives different instructions. A temperature and symptom record can be useful if you feel unwell.

Seek emergency care for breathing or swallowing difficulty, rapidly worsening swelling of the face or neck, fainting, confusion, severe chest pressure, or uncontrolled bleeding. Contact the lymphoma team promptly for fever or chills, drenching sweats, severe weakness, persistent vomiting, or rapidly increasing pain.
