When to worry about skin blisters with dyshidrotic eczema

Dyshidrotic eczema causes small, deep-seated, intensely itchy blisters, usually on the palms, sides of the fingers, or soles. As they dry, the skin can peel, crack, and feel sore. Sweating, stress, wet work, and contact with irritating substances may aggravate symptoms. A sudden change toward warmth, swelling, throbbing pain, or drainage deserves review.

Use lukewarm water, a gentle cleanser, and regular fragrance-free moisturiser. Wear protective gloves for wet or chemical work, with a breathable layer underneath if recommended. Do not pierce the blisters or peel loose skin. A clinician can confirm the diagnosis and prescribe treatment when itch, cracking, or repeated flares are interfering with daily tasks.

Arrange prompt care for pus, spreading redness, fever, rapidly worsening swelling, or red streaks moving away from the area. Seek urgent help for facial swelling, breathing difficulty, or a widespread blistering reaction. Painful cracks that prevent walking, gripping, washing, or sleeping also merit timely assessment.

Ask whether the pattern fits dyshidrotic eczema, whether infection or contact allergy should be considered, and which treatments suit your hands or feet. Mention recent wet work, gloves, new products, sweating, and how often flares return.
