When to worry about ringing in the ears with Meniere's disease

Ringing in the Ears is a very common presentation of Meniere's Disease. Changes in inner-ear fluid balance can affect hearing, pressure, and balance, producing episodes of ringing with fullness or spinning dizziness. A sudden or clearly different pattern may need assessment because not every ear symptom is caused by Meniere's disease.

Keep an episode diary covering ringing intensity, hearing, ear fullness, vertigo, possible food or drink triggers, and recovery time. Sit down during attacks and use support when walking. Follow your agreed treatment plan, take medicines as directed, and avoid driving or risky work when balance is impaired.

Seek urgent care for sudden hearing loss, new facial weakness, trouble speaking, fainting, severe headache, or inability to walk safely. Arrange a prompt review for repeated falls, prolonged vomiting, a new one-sided change, or hearing that is steadily getting worse.

Ask how to recognise your usual attacks, when hearing or balance tests should be repeated, which medicines to use during episodes, and what activity limits are safest.
