When to worry about restless legs with peripheral neuropathy

Restless Legs is a common presentation of Peripheral Neuropathy. Nerve irritation can create crawling, tingling, burning, or uncomfortable sensations that make movement feel necessary, especially while resting. Similar symptoms can also arise from iron deficiency, medicines, or another sleep-related movement problem, so the pattern matters.

Record when the urge to move starts, whether walking relieves it, and where numbness or burning occurs. Gentle movement, stretching, a regular sleep routine, and limiting caffeine late in the day may reduce triggers. Check your feet each day for blisters, cracks, colour changes, or injuries you may not feel clearly. Do not stop prescribed medicines without advice.

Arrange a clinical review if symptoms persist, keep you awake, spread, or interfere with walking. Seek urgent help for sudden weakness, rapidly increasing numbness, loss of balance, a cold or discoloured foot, or a wound with spreading redness, swelling, or fever.
