When to worry about persistent itching with Hodgkin lymphoma

Hodgkin lymphoma may cause generalised itching without an obvious rash, although dry skin, allergy, infection, and medicine reactions are also possible. Itching can become more troublesome at night or after warmth, and scratching may create redness, sores, or infection.

Tell your clinician whether the itching is new, widespread, affecting sleep, or accompanied by drenching night sweats, fever, unusual tiredness, swelling, or unexplained weight change. These details help the team interpret the symptom with your examination and treatment history.

Keep your skin moisturised with a fragrance-free product and use gentle cleansers. Wear loose, breathable clothing, keep the room cool, and try a cool compress instead of vigorous scratching. Check with your team before taking an antihistamine or other itch medicine.

Arrange a review if itching persists, spreads, interrupts sleep, or changes after chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or another medicine. Your team can look for skin causes, treatment effects, and other explanations.

Seek urgent help for blistering, peeling skin, rapidly spreading redness, severe pain, fever, pus, or facial swelling. Call emergency services for wheezing, throat swelling, breathing difficulty, fainting, or collapse.
