When to worry about persistent headache with meningioma

A meningioma may press on nearby tissue or affect fluid pressure, producing headache with nausea, visual changes, altered balance, weakness, or seizures. Headache may also come from migraine, neck tension, medicines, dehydration, or another illness. The symptom does not identify the cause by itself.

Note timing, location, intensity, morning or night pattern, changes with coughing or bending, and associated symptoms. Bring this record to appointments so the clinician can compare it with examination findings and imaging.

Tell the neurology, oncology, or neurosurgical team if pain becomes more frequent, lasts longer, wakes the person, or no longer responds to the agreed plan. Use only recommended medicines and ask before taking new products, particularly when surgery or other treatment is planned.

Get emergency help for a sudden severe headache, seizure, collapse, confusion, new weakness or numbness, difficulty speaking, repeated vomiting, severe drowsiness, or sudden loss or change of vision. Arrange safe transport and do not drive during a seizure or while confused.
