Short answer

Persistent Fatigue is a common presentation of High Calcium in Cancer. Contact your oncology team promptly if fatigue is worsening, interferes with basic activities, or occurs with thirst, frequent urination, nausea, constipation, confusion, or unusual drowsiness.

This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.

What high calcium can do

High calcium can affect the brain, muscles, digestive system, and kidneys. This may leave you weak, sleepy, less able to concentrate, thirsty, or urinating more often. Fatigue can also have other causes, including anaemia, infection, dehydration, cancer itself, or treatment effects, so its presence does not identify the cause on its own. A blood test helps the team assess the calcium level and kidney function alongside your symptoms.

What to do now

Tell your oncology team how the fatigue has changed and what you can no longer manage. Keep a note of drinking, urination, bowel movements, nausea, alertness, and any new medicines. Do not start calcium supplements or stop prescribed treatment without advice. Take medicines as directed, unless your clinical team tells you otherwise, and follow their guidance about fluids because some people have heart or kidney conditions that affect fluid advice.

When to seek urgent help

Seek urgent medical help if you become confused, difficult to wake, unable to keep fluids down, faint, severely weak, or short of breath. New severe thirst with very frequent urination, very little urine, or a marked change in alertness also needs prompt assessment. If symptoms are milder but persistent or worsening, call your cancer team the same day for instructions.

Questions for your doctor

Ask what may be driving the fatigue, when your calcium and kidney tests should be repeated, which symptoms should trigger an emergency call, and whether any medicines or supplements could be contributing. Ask for a practical plan for hydration, rest, movement, and help with daily tasks.

Questions people ask

Can fatigue have another cause?

Yes. Anaemia, infection, dehydration, cancer, medicines, and other treatment effects can all contribute, so assessment is needed.

Should I wait for my next appointment?

Not if the fatigue is worsening or comes with confusion, vomiting, fainting, severe weakness, or reduced alertness; contact your oncology team promptly.
