When to worry about periods stopped with Turner syndrome

Turner syndrome can affect ovarian development and hormone production, so puberty and menstrual cycles may need medical support. Some people have periods for a time and later notice a change; others do not start bleeding without treatment. Thyroid conditions, pregnancy, stress, weight changes, and medicines can also affect periods and may need separate assessment.

Arrange review with the clinician who coordinates your Turner syndrome care, such as an endocrinology or gynaecology team. Bring your menstrual history and current hormone medicines. Discuss whether the dose or form of treatment needs adjustment, how to manage vaginal or hot-flush symptoms, and how reproductive goals affect the plan. Do not change prescribed hormones without advice.

Seek urgent medical help for sudden severe abdominal or pelvic pain, fainting, marked weakness, or heavy bleeding. Possible pregnancy combined with pain or bleeding also warrants prompt assessment. Contact your care team sooner for severe headaches, visual changes, chest symptoms, or a new reaction after starting hormone treatment.
