When to worry about large pores with sun-damaged skin

Long-term ultraviolet exposure can reduce the skin’s support and alter collagen, elasticity, pigmentation, and surface texture. Pores may therefore look more prominent, especially on the nose, cheeks, and forehead. This appearance is different from a single new spot. Rough patches, persistent scale, tenderness, or a sore that does not heal may signal a separate sun-related problem and should not be dismissed as a pore issue.

Use broad-spectrum sunscreen as directed, seek shade, and use hats or clothing for added protection. Cleanse gently and moisturise if the skin feels dry or tight. Avoid aggressive squeezing and harsh exfoliation, which can increase irritation. A dermatologist can discuss prescription creams or procedures for texture after examining pigmentation, sensitivity, and any suspicious lesions.

Arrange a skin examination for a new or changing lesion, uneven darkening, repeated crusting, bleeding, persistent soreness, or a rough area that fails to settle. Seek earlier review if several changes appear together or if a mark stands out from the rest of your skin. Large pores by themselves are not an emergency, but they should not obscure a separate changing spot.

Ask whether the texture change fits photoaging, which areas need monitoring, how to protect exposed skin, and whether a rough or pigmented mark needs testing.
