When to worry about large pores with acne

Pores can look more noticeable when oil, dead skin, and inflammation collect around hair follicles. Blackheads and whiteheads may stretch the opening temporarily, while repeated inflammation can leave uneven texture. Visible pores are not a measure of cleanliness, and squeezing them can worsen irritation or cause marks. Acne can affect the face, chest, shoulders, or back.

Wash gently and avoid scrubs, picking, and frequent pore strips. Choose products labelled non-comedogenic when possible, and remove makeup before sleep. A clinician may recommend a topical retinoid, benzoyl peroxide, or another treatment based on your skin and pregnancy status. Improvement takes consistent use; irritation, peeling, or worsening should prompt a treatment review.

Arrange a dermatology review for deep tender spots, draining lesions, scarring, widespread acne, or acne that affects sleep or confidence. Seek prompt advice if the eruption starts suddenly after a medicine or cosmetic product, or if it comes with fever or feeling unwell. Large pores without inflammation are usually a cosmetic concern, but a changing or bleeding spot should be assessed separately.
