When to worry about itchy throat with allergic rhinitis

Itchy Throat is a very common presentation of Allergic Rhinitis. Nasal inflammation can cause mucus to drain towards the throat, while mouth breathing may dry and irritate its surface. Sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, and itchy eyes often occur alongside it. An itchy throat by itself does not establish the cause; infection, dryness, reflux, and irritants can produce similar discomfort.

Limit contact with the triggers that worsen your nose symptoms, drink fluids, and consider a saline nasal rinse made with safe water. Avoid smoke and strongly scented products while the throat is sensitive. A pharmacist can advise on allergy medicines or nasal treatments, including how to use a spray correctly. Do not share prescription medicines or add several products without checking their ingredients.

Get emergency help for sudden throat or tongue swelling, noisy breathing, difficulty breathing, faintness, or inability to swallow saliva. Seek prompt review for severe throat pain, dehydration, a persistent high fever, or symptoms that are rapidly worsening.
