When to worry about heel pain with Sever's disease

Short answer
Heel Pain is a common presentation of Sever's Disease, but severe or changing symptoms should be checked.
This answers one question. It is not a diagnosis and does not replace an assessment by a licensed doctor.
At a glance
- Typical trigger
- Running, jumping, or sport during growth.
- Check promptly
- Limping, night pain, inability to bear weight, fever, or injury.
Understanding the pain
Sever's disease involves irritation around the growing heel where the Achilles tendon attaches. It may hurt during running, jumping, or sport and ease with rest. A child who starts limping, avoids normal play, reports pain at night, or develops symptoms after a fall may need assessment to confirm that the pattern is still consistent with this condition.
Helpful steps
Temporarily reduce running and jumping, and let the child guide activity by symptoms. Supportive shoes and a cushioned heel may make walking more comfortable. Gentle calf stretching can be considered when advised by a clinician and should not be forced. Return to sport gradually only when walking and everyday movement are comfortable.
When to seek care
Book a review if pain interferes with school, sleep, walking, or sport, or if it keeps returning when activity resumes. Seek urgent care when the child cannot bear weight, has major swelling or bruising, develops redness and fever, or has severe pain after an injury. Numbness, weakness, or pain in another area also warrants prompt evaluation.
Questions for your doctor
Ask what activity is safe now, whether footwear or heel support may help, how to restart sport, and which symptoms would suggest another diagnosis.

Questions people ask
Should a child push through heel pain?
No. Pain that changes movement is a reason to reduce impact activity and arrange advice.
When can sport restart?
A gradual return is safer when ordinary walking and movement are comfortable and the treating clinician agrees.
