When should you worry about fever if you have mpox?

Mpox may cause fever with headache, muscle aches, swollen glands, tiredness, and a rash or lesions. Fever can occur before or around the time skin lesions appear. Look at the whole illness: pain, hydration, breathing, alertness, and whether new lesions are affecting the eyes, mouth, throat, or genitals.

Avoid close skin-to-skin contact and do not share towels, bedding, clothing, or personal items while seeking advice. Call a healthcare service before attending and say that mpox is suspected or confirmed.

Rest, drink regularly, and keep a simple record of fever, pain, fluid intake, urination, and new symptoms. Keep lesions clean and covered as advised, and avoid scratching. Use only pain or fever medicines that are suitable for your health history and current medicines.

Ask a clinician about pain relief, wound care, and testing or treatment. Seek advice earlier if you are pregnant, have a weakened immune system, or have a serious long-term illness.

Get emergency help for difficulty breathing, chest pain, a seizure, fainting, new confusion, inability to wake, or severe weakness. Urgent assessment is also needed for dehydration, uncontrolled pain, or lesions involving the eye or causing trouble swallowing.

Contact a clinician promptly if vomiting prevents drinking, urine becomes very reduced, fever persists while the illness worsens, or the person cannot manage basic care. Do not wait for the rash to spread before asking for help.
