When to worry about fever with brucellosis

Brucellosis can cause fever that comes and goes, along with sweats, tiredness, chills, headache, or aching joints and muscles. A changing temperature does not by itself show whether treatment is working. Fever that returns after improving, or symptoms that steadily intensify, deserves a clinician's review because the infection may need reassessment.

Rest, drink fluids regularly, and record when the fever appears and any other symptoms. Take prescribed brucellosis treatment exactly as directed and do not stop early because you feel better. Use fever medicine only if it is suitable for you and follow its label or your clinician's instructions. Avoid close contact with potentially contaminated unpasteurised dairy or animal products.

Contact a healthcare professional promptly if fever persists, returns during treatment, or comes with worsening pain, repeated vomiting, reduced urination, or marked weakness. Seek urgent help for confusion, collapse, difficulty breathing, a severe headache with neck stiffness, or inability to keep fluids down. Tell the clinician about animal exposure, travel, unpasteurised food, and all medicines.
