When to worry about dark patches on skin with acanthosis nigricans

Acanthosis nigricans often creates darker, velvety or slightly thickened skin, especially in folds such as the neck, armpits, groin, or under the breasts. It can be associated with insulin resistance, some medicines, or other medical conditions. The appearance alone cannot identify the cause, and dark patches can have several explanations.

Book a routine appointment if the change is persistent or difficult to explain.
