When to worry about bleeding between periods with endometrial polyps

Endometrial polyps are growths from the lining of the womb. Their surface can disrupt the lining and lead to spotting between periods, heavier menstrual bleeding, or bleeding after menopause. Polyps are often non-cancerous, but symptoms cannot show what a growth is without appropriate assessment.

A clinician may arrange an ultrasound or look inside the womb with a small camera. If a polyp is removed, laboratory examination can help clarify its nature.

Make an appointment if the bleeding is a new pattern or keeps returning. Write down the timing, amount, cycle day, clots, pain, and any relationship to sex.
