Razor bumps form when shaved hairs curve back into the skin, causing small raised bumps and inflammation. The irritation itself does not always mean bacteria are involved. A clinician may look for tender pustules, yellowish crust, increasing warmth, or redness extending beyond the individual bumps before choosing an antibiotic. Similar-looking eruptions can come from ingrown hairs, irritation, or another skin condition, so using leftover medicine can delay the right care.
