When is surgical management of miscarriage recommended for molar pregnancy?

A molar pregnancy is an abnormal pregnancy in which placental tissue grows in an unusual way. It cannot develop into a healthy pregnancy, so treatment focuses on removing the tissue and checking that it has cleared. A suction procedure through the cervix may be advised after an assessment, often with ultrasound and blood tests. The clinician will discuss the anaesthetic, expected bleeding, recovery, and follow-up hormone testing. Attend the recommended assessment promptly and tell the team about bleeding, pain, dizziness, blood group, medicines, and any previous pregnancy complications. Arrange the follow-up appointments before leaving care, because pregnancy hormone levels need monitoring after treatment.
