When Is Splinting Recommended for Cubital Tunnel Syndrome?

Cubital tunnel syndrome is irritation or compression of the ulnar nerve behind the inner elbow. Bending the elbow for a long time can narrow or stretch the space around that nerve. A night splint or gentle positioning aid can discourage deep bending while you sleep. It should not be tight, and it cannot reverse established nerve damage by itself.

Use a support recommended by a clinician and check that it allows normal circulation. Avoid leaning the inner elbow on hard surfaces, take breaks from prolonged elbow flexion, and change positions during phone use or computer work. Remove the support to inspect the skin and move the arm as advised. If symptoms remain, a clinician may discuss activity changes, therapy, nerve testing, or other treatment.

Book an assessment for persistent tingling, reduced sensation, hand clumsiness, or symptoms that interfere with sleep. Seek prompt care if grip or finger movement is worsening, the hand becomes markedly weak, or numbness becomes constant. Sudden weakness after an injury needs urgent evaluation.
