Why a clavicle fracture may need support

The clavicle connects the breastbone to the shoulder. A fracture can make the arm feel heavy and shoulder movement painful. A sling or prescribed support can rest the arm and make everyday movement more manageable, but it does not decide whether the bone is aligned or whether surgery is needed. Using the support safely

Use the device fitted or recommended for you, keeping the forearm supported and the shoulder relaxed. Check the skin around the neck, elbow, and hand, and move the fingers and wrist if instructed. Do not lift, push, pull, or return to sport until a clinician gives you a safe progression. Keep follow-up appointments so healing and shoulder movement can be checked; prolonged immobilisation without guidance may lead to stiffness.

When to seek urgent help

Get urgent medical help if the hand becomes numb, weak, cold, or blue, or if pain suddenly escalates. Seek prompt review for increasing swelling, skin tenting over the fracture, breathing difficulty, chest pain, fever, or a support that causes rubbing or loss of circulation.
